Day 1: Arrival in Paro

Arrive at Paro Airport and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, explore the scenic Paro Valley, rich in culture and ancient legends. Highlights include visits to the National Museum (Ta Dzong), Rinpung Dzong, and the ruined fortress of Durkgyel Dzong. You’ll also get your first glimpse of the legendary Taktsang Monastery.

Day 2: Taktsang Monastery Hike

This morning, embark on a memorable trek to the iconic Taktsang Monastery, also known as the Tiger’s Nest, perched dramatically on a cliffside. The 2-hour hike each way rewards you with breathtaking views and the spiritual atmosphere of this sacred site.

Day 3: Paro to Punakha

Travel to Punakha, with a stop in Thimphu to visit the Tamchoe Lhakhang Temple. Continue the journey across the stunning Dochula Pass, where you’ll witness changing landscapes as you ascend through different altitudes.

Day 4: Punakha

Discover the rural beauty of Punakha with a short trek to the Crown Prince’s stupa and Sonagasa, the King’s winter residence. Visit Punakha Dzong, one of Bhutan’s most impressive fortresses. Then, head to the quirky Chimi Lhakhang Temple, famous for its fertility symbols and colorful phallic paintings.

Day 5: Punakha to Bumthang

Journey to Bumthang via the sacred Mt. Chomolhari. Stop for a scenic picnic lunch at Chedebji Chorten before continuing to Trongsa. Explore the inner courtyard of the historic Trongsa Dzong before arriving in the beautiful Bumthang Valley. Visit Chumey Palace, Prakar Monastery, and the Yathra weaving center, renowned for its traditional textiles.

Day 6: Bumthang Valley Exploration

Explore Bumthang Valley’s rich spiritual heritage with a walking tour that takes you to Jambay Lhakhang, Kurjey Lhakhang, and Tamshing Lhakhang, some of Bhutan’s most sacred temples. In the afternoon, drive to the charming town of Jakar.

Day 7: Bumthang to Trongsa

This morning, venture to Yotong La, a Red Panda habitat, offering an opportunity to spot this elusive species. Later, drive to Trongsa. In the afternoon, visit the fascinating Trongsa Dzong and its watchtower, which houses original Mongol armor and a large prayer wheel. End the day with a stroll through the local market.

Day 8: Trongsa to Thimphu

Journey to Thimphu, passing through Wangdue with a scenic tea stop at Dochu La Pass for breathtaking views of the eastern Himalayas. Visit the Tibetan village of Hongtsho before arriving in Bhutan’s capital city, Thimphu.

Day 9: Thimphu City Tour

Spend a full day exploring the highlights of Thimphu. Visit the Memorial Chorten, the National Library, the Art School, and the Textile and Folk Heritage Museum. End the day with a tour of Tashichho Dzong, the ‘fortress of the glorious religion,’ followed by a stop at the Government Handicrafts Emporium.

Day 10: Departure from Paro

Transfer to Paro Airport for your onward flight or extend your stay with one of our add-on tours to India.
