Paro – Thimphu – Paro

Introduction

This extended tour offers a deeper exploration of Bhutan, allowing more time to immerse yourself in its rich history and vibrant culture. From city tours to visiting traditional farmhouses, and trekking to a spectacular cliffside monastery, this journey captures the essence of Bhutan’s mystical charm.

Day 1: Arrival in Paro – Drive to Thimphu

Upon arrival at Paro airport, transfer to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital, for an overnight stay. Enjoy the evening at leisure to soak in the atmosphere of this tranquil city nestled in the Himalayas.

Day 2: Thimphu Sightseeing

Spend the day exploring the highlights of Thimphu with a full-day city tour. Visit Trashichho Dzong, the impressive “fortress of the glorious religion,” the Memorial Chorten, the National Library, and the Art School. Continue to the Textile and Folk Heritage Museum, followed by a visit to the Government Handicrafts Emporium, where you can shop for traditional crafts and souvenirs.

Day 3: Thimphu to Paro

After breakfast, enjoy a scenic drive from Thimphu to Paro, passing through Simtokha village and its historic dzong. Once in Paro, explore Durkgyel Dzong, a fascinating ruined fortress, and visit a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse, where you’ll experience local life and customs firsthand.

Day 4: Paro – Trek to Taktsang Monastery

Today, embark on a trek to the iconic Taktsang Monastery, also known as the Tiger’s Nest. Perched dramatically on a sheer cliff, the monastery offers incredible views and unforgettable photo opportunities. The trek takes approximately 2 hours each way, rewarding you with one of Bhutan’s most breathtaking sights.

Day 5: Departure from Paro

After breakfast, transfer to Paro airport for your onward flight, or extend your adventure with add-on tours to Bhutan, Nepal, or India.
