Introduction

This journey combines the captivating beauty of East India and the mystical land of Bhutan. Begin with the tea plantations, colonial heritage, and Buddhist monasteries of Darjeeling and Sikkim, then cross into Bhutan to discover its untouched landscapes, vibrant monasteries, and rich cultural heritage. Explore the high Himalayas and experience a blend of traditions, from India’s tea estates to Bhutan’s sacred temples.

Day 1: Arrival in Kolkata

Arrive in Kolkata and transfer to your hotel. The remainder of the day is free for you to relax or explore at your own pace.

Day 2: Kolkata City Tour

Enjoy a full-day tour of Kolkata, where you will visit the Indian Museum, built in an Italian architectural style, the iconic Howrah Bridge, the stunning Victoria Memorial, and the historic St. Paul’s Cathedral.

Day 3: Kolkata – Bagdogra – Darjeeling

Take a morning flight to Bagdogra, then transfer to Darjeeling, a hill station renowned for its tea gardens and Himalayan views. Settle into your hotel and enjoy a leisurely evening.

Day 4: Darjeeling Sightseeing

Spend the day exploring Darjeeling, including a visit to Ghoom Monastery with its grand statue of Maitreya Buddha, the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, and the Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre where traditional crafts are made. You’ll also have time to admire the region’s famous tea plantations.

Day 5: Darjeeling – Kalimpong

This morning, drive to Kalimpong, known for its flower nurseries and vibrant markets. Visit Tharpa Choling Monastery, a center of Gelugpa Buddhism.

Day 6: Kalimpong – Gangtok

Journey through the foothills to Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. Visit Do-drul Chorten Stupa, Enchey Monastery, and the Research Institute of Tibetology, which houses rare Tibetan artifacts and manuscripts.

Day 7: Gangtok Sightseeing

Explore the Rumtek Monastery, one of the largest in Sikkim and a major seat of Tibetan Buddhism. Later, enjoy panoramic views of Mt. Kanchenjunga and Mt. Siniolchu from the Tashi viewpoint.

Day 8: Gangtok – Phuntsholing

Drive to Phuntsholing, the gateway to Bhutan, passing through scenic tea estates. Cross into Bhutan and visit Zangtho Pelri Lhakhang, a temple representing the heavenly abode of Guru Rinpoche. Stroll through the local market in the evening.

Day 9: Phuntsholing – Thimphu

Travel to Bhutan’s capital, Thimphu, stopping en route at Kharbandi Goemba, a beautiful monastery with sweeping views of the plains. Visit Simtokha Dzong, Bhutan’s oldest fortress and school of Buddhist studies.

Day 10: Thimphu City Tour

Explore Thimphu, visiting Trashichho Dzong, the Memorial Chorten, the National Library, and the Art School. Later, stop at the Textile and Folk Heritage Museum, followed by a visit to the Government Handicrafts Emporium.

Day 11: Thimphu – Paro

Drive to the picturesque Paro Valley, where you’ll visit Ta Dzong, home to the National Museum, and Rinpung Dzong, a fortress with a rich history. Spend the evening exploring the valley’s legends and scenic beauty.

Day 12: Paro – Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest)

Trek to the stunning Taktsang Monastery, perched on a cliffside and offering breathtaking views. In the afternoon, visit the ruins of Durkgyel Dzong, followed by a stop at a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse to experience local life.

Day 13: Paro – Kolkata

Take a flight from Paro back to Kolkata. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 14: Departure from Kolkata

Transfer to the airport for your onward flight, or extend your stay in India with one of the add-on tours we offer.
